What to pack as a travel nurse
It is without a doubt a priority to have any important documents that a travel nurse might need once traveling.
Here are a few documents that a travel nurse will need:
- Driver’s License
- Social Security Card
- Travel Documents
Ask your travel agency if there are more documents that you need to bring along.
First-aid kit and medications
As a travel nurse, it is often troublesome when thinking about what to bring on the next job. Since there are numerous factors to consider when living on a house provided by the agency, it is best to be prepared for the essentials.
Here is a list of things you can bring:
Although you will be working at a hospital, it is also important that you have these when you are not at work. This is for emergency purposes and it’s best to always be prepared for unforeseen circumstances.
- band-aids, bandages
- a thermal blanket
- over the counter medications for headaches, fever, and cold
When it comes to toiletries you don’t need to have a lot. In fact, you can always purchase at stores once you are at the location. But there are some items you will need. The best thing to do is to keep it light and carry what is really essential for your travel.
- hand sanitizer
- toilet paper
- toothbrush & toothpaste
- hand and body soap
- floss & mouthwash
Now for clothing, you will need to bring scrubs of course. Other clothes you will need are for your every non-working attire. Make sure to have enough for the duration of your contract.
Electronic equipment is part of us whether we like it or not. We depend on them every day in our lives. In this case, bringing your phone, tablet, and the laptop is a necessity. Aside from recreational leisure, this equipment can make any tasks that you do easier. From searching for information online to organizing your day.
There are instances wherein the place you are going to stay does not have all the household items that you might need. Contact your agency to know what is currently available in your temporary place.
If there is none, here is a list that you might need to bring with you:
- plates & bowls
- cooking utensils
- spoon & fork
- pillows, sheet & blankets
Working away from home can cause loneliness and homesickness. Take with you any sentimental items that can ease away from that feeling. One good example would be a picture of your loved ones.
Always remember to bring only what you need and pack light as much as possible. A contract would take at least 13 weeks so base on that duration on what to bring with you.
